What We Do

Woodwork

Woodworking is the skill of making items from wood and includes cabinet making, wood carving, joinery, carpentry and woodturning.

At Sandgate Mens Shed we are very proud of our woodworking space and we offer a full range of tools and machines to complete most projects.

Metalwork

Metalwork is the process of shaping and reshaping metal to create useful objects. As a term it covers a wide and diverse range of processes, skills and tools for producing objects on every scale.

At Sandgate Mens Shed we have a seperate metalwork area, with a range of machines and tools to complete a variety of projects.

Pyrography

The art of Pyrography has been around for centuires. It is an age old technique where a heated metal pen is used to burn wood and other materials, leaving behind a decorative pattern.

The space we use for Pyrography is in a quieter section of the shed, away from the hustle and bustle of the woodwork and metalwork areas. Members of all abilities can practice Pyrography at Sandgate Mens Shed.

Fundraising

We participate in a number of fundraising activities which allows us to continue our shed programs.
These include regular Bunnings Sausage Sizzles, attendance at the annual Sandgate Einbunpin Festival and  monthly Bracken Ridge Lions Train Days .
We also sell products produced by members at the shed and refurbish and repair items bought in by the public.
Wellbeing
Our shed supports positive health outcomes for men. Good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to your community, connecting with friends, and maintaining an active body and mind.
We provide a safe and busy environment, where men can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old fashioned mateship.
And, importantly, there is no pressure.
We have a special focus on:
  • Improving access to health services and information
  • Increasing member attendance and participation
  • Tracking and improving attendance and participation rates
